MIDNIGHT MOVIE
(Dir. Jack Messitt, US, NR, 2008, 81 min)

Midnight Movie is a wickedly entertaining mix of Wes Craven’s New Nightmare and Lamberto Bava’s Demons.  It’s a horror movie within a horror movie.  At a rundown theatre in a sleepy suburban town, a group of friends attend the midnight screening of a 1970s cult splatter film. These unsuspecting teenagers are unaware that the director of the movie made a bloody escape from a mental hospital five years earlier and is still on the loose.  Tonight is the film’s first theatrical screening since his disappearance. As the midnight movie begins, the kids heckle the old black-and-white film, but are soon jolted when the killer butchers one of their friends…on screen!  Now, they realize that they’re locked inside the theatre and the celluloid killer has stepped off the projection screen and into reality.   Caught between the unknown and the film’s flickering shadows, they are becoming the unwilling stars of their very own horror flick!

Viewer’s Guide:  Language, violence and gore.
