We Have Arrived!

On August 9-12, 2001, the spotlight will focus on Durham, North Carolina, and the historic Carolina Theatre in downtown Durham at "ARRIVAL: the 6th Annual North Carolina Gay and Lesbian Film Festival." Promising to be our biggest festival yet, the NCGLFF will feature 70 features, shorts, documentaries, and experimental films, including 37 North Carolina premieres. Certainly, the NCGLFF has arrived on the film festival circuit as the place to debut queer film in the Southeast.

Some of the premieres and other notable films include:

  • "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" (Audience Award Winner, 2001 Sundance Film Festival)
  • "Revoir Julie"
  • "Lost and Delirious" (Directed by Lea Pool)
  • "Sex Becomes Her: The True Life Story of Chi Chi LaRue"
  • "All Over the Guy"
  • "Scout's Honor"

See these NCGLFF 2001 web pages for the festival schedule or film descriptions. Listings for films in the short programs are also available.

Sunday 8/12 (noon-7pm)

On Saturday and Sunday the 11th and 12th, a community resources room will be open to all festival attendees. Approximately 50 local organizations will have literature for festival-goers to educate themselves on local services, social clubs, and volunteer opportunities that are available. To encourage people to visit the community resources room we will be giving away randomly drawn door prizes. Doorprizes include hundreds of dollars worth of gift certificates to local restaurants, stores, and area service providers. In addition, visitors have the opportunity to win T-shirts and donated merchandise, including your choice of movie posters. Don't forget to visit the Community Resources Room while you are at the festival!

If you are part of a local non-profit or social club and would like to have literature in the Community Resource Room, please contact Betty Rhodes.

If you are a local business owner or service provider and would like to donate a gift certificate or merchandise as a doorprize, please contact Ronna Dornsife.
