THE CAROLINA THEATRE TO RE-OPEN
WITH 12TH ANNUAL NORTH CAROLINA
GAY & LESBIAN FILM FESTIVAL
Durham,
NC:
The annual North Carolina Gay and Lesbian Film Festival (NCGLFF),
usually held in the second week of August for the past eleven years,
will occur during the final week of August 2007. The 12th
edition
of the four-day festival takes place Thursday, August 23 through
Sunday, August 26 at the historic Carolina Theatre in Downtown Durham.
The new dates are in response to
audience requests
that the festival take place during a time period when colleges and
universities are in session and thereby able to participate.
Increased college-student attendance at the 2007 festival will
determine if the NCGLFF occurs in early or late August in future
years. According to audience surveys, traditional college-age
students currently represent less than 10% of overall festival
attendance. The NCGLFF has averaged 10,000 in attendance each
year since 2001.
Tickets go on sale Wednesday, August 1st
at 11 a.m.
Single tickets are $8.00 and 5-Packs are $35.00.
Tickets
can be purchased at the box office located at 309 West Morgan Street in
Durham. Box office hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through
Friday and weekends from 1:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. More information is
available at www.carolinatheatre.org
The Durham Convention and Visitors
Bureau named the
NCGLFF a Signature Event for Durham, the highest honor bestowed on a
cultural event or attraction by the organization in 2003.
Produced by non-profit Carolina Theatre of Durham, Inc., the NCGLFF is
the second largest LGBT film festival in the Southeast and the largest
cultural arts event serving the queer community in the Carolinas.
Since its beginning in 1995, the NCGLFF has presented almost 1,000
shorts, documentaries and feature films of wide appeal to the LGBT
community. The 2007 festival line-up will feature 76 films
including 2 world premieres and 72 North Carolina premieres.
The
76 films represent an international collaboration of artists from a
dozen countries including Germany, Taiwan, Israel, France, Iceland,
Spain, Canada and the United Kingdom.
Highlight films for this year’s festival include the
Women’s Centerpiece “Nina’s Heavenly
Delights,”
Men’s Centerpiece – “East Side
Story,”
Women’s Opening Night Film –
“What’s Up,
Scarlet?” and the Men’s Opening Night Film
